It is structure. The margins of a Pentagram spread, the distance a Kinfolk image keeps from its caption \u2014 these are not decorative choices, they are load-bearing ones.<\/p>\n<p>In my own practice I have started treating white space as a material. It is as physical as ink. It has weight, grain, and preference. It can be tense or relaxed.
